As the name implies, homeschooling is the education of children at home, directed by parents. The education doesn't have to be "at home." When homeschooling, the world itself can become your classroom.
Millions of American children are being homeschooled today and this number is rising exponentially every year. Homeschooling offers families the freedom to make decisions about curriculum, learning techniques and environments that best suit the needs of each child and that align with the family's values.
Here are just a few benefits of homeschooling:
Homeschooling is parent directed.
Homeschooling goes beyond simple academics.
Homeschooling breaks the child free from artificial constraints of "the system."
Homeschooling opens up the home and the world as "the classroom."
Homeschooling helps build strong family connections.
Homeschooling provides the child a sense of safety, security and nurturing.
Homeschooling must still comply with state homeschooling laws.
YES. There are many inexpensive alternatives including Homeschool Connect's own online curriculum (coming soon). Compared to the financial costs of public school and the cost to your child's emotional and spiritual well-being homeschooling will be a much less costly alternative. At a time when public education has been transformed into indoctrination, you CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO.
As most parents know, a great deal of time is wasted in public school. Homeschooling allows you to cut out the rubbish and focus on what really matters and on what your child really needs. Many parents report on average needing only 2-3 hours of daily formal education. However, because you are in control and the world becomes your classroom, many daily experiences can be turned into educational time. Your child simply won't be confined to rows of desks while staring at the back of someone's head.

One of the most common objections is that "your child will not be properly socialized."
Aside from the fact that a look at the public school environment suggest there is some socialization we don't want for our children, studies have shown that the objection just doesn't hold water!
Homeschoolers are doing well on “all measures of social, emotional and psychological development.”
Besides this, there are countless activities available to the homeschool parent and student. We'll help you explore some of those ideas and options on this site.
Homeschool has the advantage of being very portable. Many curriculums, in whole or in part, are based online. The child can pack all they need to carry in their backpack. Remember, the world becomes the child's classroom and the parent is the teacher.
Typically the opposite is true. Family bonds are strengthened, relationships deepen and the child receives a strong sense of security and belonging. Obviously every person, including the parent and the student, needs some quiet time. It is important to make that time part of your daily routine.
The parent is not required to be certified. However, there are many video-based and online curriculum offerings that use certified teachers to present material. What is most important is that the information your child receives is true, aligns with your values and contributes to healthy and positive development of the student into the person God intends them to be.
Yes.
Yes. There is likely a homeschool co-op in your area where parents join together to provide a place where children can learn while parents work. In many places, grandparents and retirees have pitched in to help with homeschooling.
